Ekin Cheng

Born on October 4th, 1967, Ekin Cheng is an actor and singer from Hong Kong who first became active in the '90s. After learning the ropes of the acting trade through a series of television roles, he secured his first movie break in 1992 with the David Lam Tak-luk-directed film Girls Without Tomorrow 1992 under his initial stage name of Dior Cheng. He changed his name to Ekin Cheng shortly before taking on a career-defining role as Chan Ho-nam for the Young and Dangerous film series, which is based around the misadventures of a group of triad members in Hong Kong. He went on to feature in a genre-spanning mix of films, from comedies like 2002's My Wife is 18 to horror flicks like 2007's Forest of Death. In 2008, he won a Best Actor Award for his work on the horror film Rule No. 1, which was directed by Kelvin Tong and also starred Shawn Yue. His music career began to take off in tandem with his work on Young and Dangerous, and he scored an enduring hit in the "Age of Friendship" theme tune for the first series. He has put out a number of releases for both Sony BMG and Albert Yeung's EEG, beginning with the Cantonese album "不要哭了" ("Don't Cry") in 1992 and taking in all five of the Young and Dangerous soundtracks in the '90s – culminating in the Young and Dangerous best-of collection in 2001 – and the "鄭伊健 Beautiful Day 2011 演唱會" live album. He released a comeback single in 2022 in the form of the theme tune for the movie Late Night Dodge Ball.
