Emancipator

American producer and DJ, Emancipator began creating music in high school before releasing his debut album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough in 2006. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Douglas Appling (born May 27th 1987) now has an extensive collection of releases including full length albums, EPs, live and remix records, as well as a live band, Emancipator Ensemble, which he has taken around the world on numerous tours and appearances. Soon It Will Be Cold Enough was eventually re-released by Japanese label Hydeout Productions, in 2008. After pivoting to Ableton Live software, Appling announced his second album Safe In the Steep Cliffs, which was released in 2010. Best described as electronica, trip-hop, and chillwave music, Appling began his own music label, Loci Records, in 2012 which has become home to the majority of Emancipator releases since. Dusk to Dawn (2013) and Seven Seas (2015) both received acclaim as well as his first live album, Live from Athens, recorded live at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Georgia on February of 2014. That same year Appling released his second remix album, Dusk to Dawn Remixes, in July. His fifth album, Baralku, was released in late 2017 and his sixth album, Mountain of Memory, came out in the spring of 2020.
