Etta Jones

Etta Jones was a jazz singer who grew up in New York and performed and recorded for over 50 years after joining Buddy Johnson's big band while still a teenager. She first found fame with the album 'Don't Go to Strangers' (1960), which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008, and went on to release over 30 solo albums during her lengthy career. Her other best-known albums include 'Save Your Love for Me' (1981), 'Fine and Mellow' (1987) and 'My Buddy' (1997). She formed a lasting partnership with saxophonist Houston Person in 1968 and the pair released three albums together and continued performing with one another for over 30 years. She passed away on 16th October 2001 at the age of 72 following a lengthy battle with cancer.
