Gilberto Santa Rosa

The Puerto Rican salsa singer Gilberto Santa Rosa was born in the 'barrio' of Santurce in 1962 where he developed his interest in music from a young age. He made his recording debut in 1976 with the Mario Ortiz Orchestra but it was during the early 1980s when his professional career really began to take off. During this period he recorded with various renowned Latin orchestras including the Tommy Olivencia Orchestra and the Willie Rosario Orchestra. He quickly became known for his improvisational style of salsa and Latin audiences were thrilled by some of his creative renditions of traditional songs. In 2007 he received a Grammy Award for his critically-acclaimed album 'Directo al corazón'. With 29 albums to his credit, his most recent being his 2019 release titled '40... Y Contando (En Vivo desde Puerto Rico)', Santa Rosa is showing no signs of relaxing his intense touring and recording career and now holds the record of having had the most number one albums in Billboard's Tropical Chart.
