Go West

British hitmakers Go West formed in London in 1982 and ruled the pop roost over the next two decades with their anthemic brand of guitar-driven dance-pop. Go West – composed of lead vocalist Peter Cox and rhythm and backing vocalist Richard Drummie – scored a UK number five with their debut 1985 single "We Close Our Eyes", also hitting the same position on the US Dance Club Play chart as well as reaching number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. Accompanied by an MTV-friendly video directed by Godley & Creme, the track became their biggest single and was met by the release of their self-titled debut album that same year. The LP, which featured "We Close Our Eyes" as well as singles "Call Me" and "Don't Look Down", reached number eight in the UK and paved the way for the group's Best Newcomer award at the Brits the following year. "One Way Street", a track from their 1986 remix album Bangs and Crashes, was featured on the soundtrack for Rocky IV, with the full-length studio follow-up to their debut arriving the following year. Dancing on the Couch didn't quite hit the same highs as their debut but it did make it into the UK top 20 and gave the band their first US top 40 hit single, "Don't Look Down – The Sequel". Their next breakthrough came with the release of 1990 single "King of Wishful Thinking", which was featured in the hit film Pretty Woman as well as charting at number eight in the US. Written in collaboration with Martin Page, the song received an ASCAP pop music award in 1992 with the video also receiving a nod at the Brits in 1991. 1992 saw the release of their third album, Indian Summer, which yielded a hit single in "Faithful", co-written with Martin Page. Making their return to music after 16 years off, Go West released their fourth studio album, futurenow, in 2008 and a compilation album, 80's Re:Covered, followed in 2015. Released as three EPs over three years, with the third dropping in 2013, their fifth studio album, 3D, landed in 2013 and the pair are currently still active.
