GReeeeN

The four-man Japanese vocal pop rock act GReeeeN started in 2002 when members Hide and Navi joined forces. Two years later they teamed up with Soh and 92 who brought a hip-hop element to the group’s musical soundscape. While each member was studying dentistry, the recorded and released an independent EP in 2006. They released their full-length debut, A, Domo. Hajimemashite which rose to number 2 on the album chart, powered by the smash single “Ai Uta”. They followed up their successful debut with a pair of number one albums, 2008’s A, Domo. Ohisashiburi Desu. and 2009’s Shio, Kosho. Together, those albums spun off three number one hits including 2008’s Chaku-Uta Song of the Year winner “Kiseki”. The song would eventually win notoriety from the Guinness Book of World Records for being the best selling download single in the history of Japan. They would continue to release top 10 albums and songs through the next decade. One of the most interesting aspects of GReeeeN is that none of the members have ever revealed their faces, claiming the notoriety would interfere with their dentistry work. They have never performed in public, and make sure to obscure their faces in all photographs and television appearances.
