Ice Nine Kills

Inspired by the grisly theatrics of horror movies, the heavy stomp of metalcore, and the furious pace of modern punk, Ice Nine Kills was formed by high school classmates Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz in Boston, Massachusetts. Launched in 2000, the group spent several years fine-tuning its sound before issuing a self-released debut album, Last Chance to Make Amends, in 2006. EPs like 2007's The Burning and 2009's 2 Song Acoustic followed, as did the sophomore album Safe Is Just a Shadow. Released in 2010, Safe Is Just a Shadow was supported by a two-week run with the Warped Tour, which helped introduce Ice Nine Kills' music to a wide circle of post-hardcore fans. When the group's third EP, The Predator, arrived in 2013, the band's audience had swelled considerably, with The Predator peaking at Number 9 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. A full-length effort, The Predator Becomes the Prey, was released in 2014 and became the band's first genuine hit, charting at Number 13 on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart. Two years later, Every Trick in the Book reached Number 3 on the same chart, with 2018's The Silver Scream peaking at Number 2. The Silver Scream also became a Top 40 hit on the all-genre Billboard 200, where it charted at Number 29, as well as a Number 31 success in the UK. Meanwhile, the band continued to struggle with an ever-shifting roster of musicians, with frontman Spencer Charnas quickly becoming the group's longest-running member. After scoring two hit singles — the Number 9 smash "A Grave Mistake" and the Number 16 single "Savages," both from The Silver Scream — on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, Ice Nine Kills chose to revisit the album's emphasis on horror films with The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood. Released in 2021 as the sequel to The Silver Scream, the album became the band's biggest success to date, climbing to the top of the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart while also peaking at Number 18 on the Billboard 200, Number 11 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart, and Number 35 in Australia.
