Jassie Gift

Indian film music composer and playback singer, Jassie Gift, was born on November 27, 1975, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. His passion for music developed during his childhood, showing a strong inclination towards the music of Freddie Mercury which led him to learning piano at an early age and showcasing his talents as a singer and keyboard player in local bands. One of his notable contributions to the Malayalam music industry was the introduction of reggae fusion music and he soon developed a reputation for his unique cross-genre stylings. Making his debut as a film composer in the movie Saphalam, Gift soon became known as a hitmaker, collaborating with several prominent South Indian musicians, including Harris Jayaraj, Devisri Prasad, Yuvan Shankar Raja, M. M. Keeravani, and Anirudh Ravichander and delivering numerous popular tracks in multiple languages, most notably “Themma Themma Themmadikkatte” (2004), "Andangakka" (2005), "Thattum Muttum" (2009), "Ithiri Chakkara Nulli" (2011) and "Karakudi Ilavarasi" (2018). However, it was Gift’s biggest hit "Lajjavathiye" from the film 4 The People (known as the biggest Malayalam film of 2004) which gained him significant fame, with the song's popularity transcending language barriers when it was remade and re-released in Tamil and Telugu as "Mallieswarivey." In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the industry, in 2011, Gift was awarded the Filmfare, Suvarna Film and Bangalore Times Awards for Best Music Director for the film Sanju Weds Geetha and the following year, he was honoured with the Mirchi Music Award South for Composer of the Year as well as the ETV Sangeet Samman Award for Best Music Director for Myna. His career continued to flourish, with Gift contributing to over forty soundtracks including Lakshya (2019), Christina (2020), Chiri (2021), Adithattu (2022) and O Manase (2023) and in June 2023, his smash hit Lajjavathiye experienced a resurgence in popularity, reclaiming a spot on the music charts at number 183.
