Jennifer Thomas

Classical pianist and composer Jennifer Thomas was born June 23, 1977 in Seattle, Washington to a mother and father well-versed in the creative arts; her mom, Carolyn Southworth, was a professional musician and her dad a photographer. Mom started their daughter on piano and violin at a young age. After college she performed with many respected institutions including Salt Lake City’s Murray Symphony and the Oregon Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. She returned to her hometown of Seattle and began working on her own compositions. Her debut album, 2007’s Key of Sea, combined her originals, which showcased her ability to combine classical technique with more popular elements, and her interpretations of pieces from Leonard Bernstein. For 2009’s The Lullaby Album, Thomas collaborated with Southworth on a gentle album inspired by the birth of Thomas’ first child. Her 2013 LP Illumination became her most well-reviewed album to that point and fused World music influences along with her ever-improving classical prowess. Christmas classics comprised the bulk of 2015’s Winter Symphony, but for 2018’s The Fire Within she composed entirely new material and was rewarded with a top 5 Classical and Classical Crossover album on the Billboard charts, as well as the Classical Song of the Year award from the International Music and Entertainment Awards for the album’s title track.
