Jonghyun

Known as Jonghyun, Korean pop singer-songwriter Kim Jonghyun was the lead singer of the K-pop group SHINee, which formed in 2008 and became massively popular. He performed with S.M. Entertainment's group SM the Ballard and also had a regular radio programme. His death from apparent suicide on 18th December 2017 left his huge following of fans bereft with an outpouring of grief expressed on social media. Billboard reported that his demise sparked renewed interest in his recordings with the single 'Lonely', the lead track of his album 'The Collection: Story Op. 2', going to number six on the World Digital Song Sales Chart. The album had peaked at number seven on Billboard's World Album Chart when released first in March 2017. He made his solo recording debut with the EP 'Base' which topped the World Albums Chart in 2015. His 2016 album 'She Is', which featured nine of his own songs, peaked at number four on the World Albums Chart and 'The Collection: Story Op. 1' went to number seven in 2015. Following his death from carbon monoxide poisoning, BBC News reported that a note posted on social media by a close friend revealed that Jonghyun had struggled with depression.
