Kai

Kai is an Filipino-American R&B and soul group formed in 1992 in the San Francisco Area. The group was founded by Leo Chan, Andrew Gapuz, AC Lorenzo, Andrey Silva, and Errol Viray. Kai is credited as being the first of many Filipino-American R&B groups to emerge during the late 1990s and early 2000s. They released their debut single "Say You'll Stay" in 1997, which achieved heavy rotation on California radio. They signed with Geffen Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1998. This album was only the second by a Filipino-American artist to be released on a major label (Jocelyn Enriquez was the first in 1997). The album’s second single, “Something Inside Me” didn’t chart and the band eventually left Geffen. Andrew Gapuz left Kai in 2000 and was replaced by Johnny Misa. Kai recorded their second album, The Promise, and released it independently in 2000. The band fell apart shortly after the album’s release, ceasing all activities in 2001.
