Kirk Covington

Fusion / jazz drummer Kirk ‘CPT. Kirk’ Covington - born in Midland, Texas – has had a varied career but is best known for his work in fusion group Tribal Tech. His career began while attending the University of North Texas College of Music where he connected with bassist Gary Willis. The group Tribal Tech had formed in 1985, but in 1990, Willis had invited Kirk Covington to join the acclaimed group led by guitarist Scott Henderson. He remained with Tribal Tech until their final album, X, in 2012. Kirk Covington has also worked as a live and studio sideman for artists such as Allan Holdsworth, Joe Zawinul, John Humphrey, Robben Ford, and many others. He also continued to record separately with his former Tribal Tech bandmates Scott Henderson and Scott Kinsey (keyboards) and was a member of Volto! Using his nickname, CPT. Kirk and showcasing his keyboard playing and vocals as well as his drumming, he formed his own group and recorded several albums – including Starship Cadillac, and the White and Black albums – before the group evolved into CPT. Kirk and the Devil Horns. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2019 and included the fan favorite “Always the Same”. CPT Kirk and the Devil Horns released the single “All the Way” in February 2022, which was streamed on social media nearly 270,000 times in less than a month.
