Formed in Calhoun, Georgia in 2010, Nashville, Tennessee-based blues rock duo Larkin Poe is comprised of sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. They began their career as The Lovell Sisters, a bluegrass trio with their sister Jessica. After four years, two albums, and some high-profile shows, The Lovell Sisters split and Rebecca and Megan immediately formed a new band named after their great-great-great grandfather, Larkin Poe. Their musical style changed, adding a bluesy, Southern rock vibe to their sound. Larkin Poe’s first four releases were EPs named after each season: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter (all released in 2010). Elvis Costello was impressed enough to offer them an opening slot on his 2011 tour. They recorded two collaborations in 2013 with Thom Hell (The Sound of the Ocean Sound) and Blair Dunlop (Killing Time EP). Larkin Poe released their debut full length album Kin in 2014, followed two years later by Reskinned, which was a reconfigured version of their Kin album featuring new recordings replacing five of the original album’s tracks. The duo’s popularity grew with each release and they began to earn praise from fellow musicians and perform and record with artists such as Jackson Browne, Don Henley, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), and more. Their 2017 album Peach was nominated for a Blues Foundation Best Emerging Artist Album award. Their fourth album, Venom & Faith, was released in 2018 and reached Number 1 on the Billboard Blues Album chart. The album also earned them a Grammy Award nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Larkin Poe released their fourth studio album, Self Made Man, in 2020, which was followed later that year by an album of cover versions entitled Kindred Spirits. A year later, Larkin Poe released the album Blood Harmony, which went on to win the award for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
