Les Amazones d'Afrique

Les Amazones d'Afrique is a Malian music supergroup mixed with electronic fusion, featuring singers Angélique Kidjo, Nneka, Kandia Kouyaté, Mamani Keïta, Rokia Koné, Mariam Doumbia, Mariam Koné, Massan Coulibaly, Madina N'Diaye, Madiaré Dramé, Mouneissa Tandina and Pamela Badjogo since 2015. After a public presentation at the Fiesta des Suds festival in Marseille that same year, the ensemble made a name for itself with the title " I Play the Kora", the profits from which were redistributed to a humanitarian association dedicated to African women. Invited to take part in the WOMAD festival founded by Peter Gabriel, Les Amazones d'Afrique signed with Real World and recorded their debut album République Amazone (2017), blending traditional Mandingo music with dub, trip-hop and downtempo styles. A number of changes took place, including the departure of several members, including Angélique Kidjo, Nneka and Kandia Kouyaté, and the arrival of other singers, before the recording of the album Amazone Power (2020), which called on a large number of guests during its development in various studios between Paris, Bamako and Majorca. The result, produced by Liam Farrell, expands the band's audience in the United States and gives rise to two EPs, Amazones Power (The Remixes) (2021) and Live (2022). In 2024, the third album welcomed back Mamani Keïta and Nneka alongside Fafa Ruffino, Dobet Gnahoré, Kandy Guira and Alvie Bitemo.
