Sir Robert Bryson Hall II (January 22, 1990), better known (and more easily remembered) by his stage name Logic, was brought up in a tough inner-city district of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Both his parents were addicts and his brothers were drug dealers, not a promising start for a teenager. After being expelled from High School, he began to look for a purpose in his life and discovered it in hip-hop. Bizarrely, he cites Frank Sinatra as one of his major influences and titled his fourth mixtape Young Sinatra; Welcome to Forever, and although Ol' Blue Eyes might appear to be a strange bedfellow for a hip-hopping rap artist, the influences and connection can definitely be detected in Logic's work. Young Sinatra; Welcome to Forever clocked up 700,000 downloads on DatPiff and although the downloads were free, the sheer volume of users brought Logic to the attention of fabled hip-hop label Def Jam. Under Pressure, his debut studio album for the label, sold 70,000 copies in its first week, entering Billboard's Hip-Hop/R&B chart at Number 2. Follow-up album The Incredible True Story sold 135,000 copies in its first week, underlining Logic's growing popularity as a hip-hop artist. Since leaving the projects, he has become a clean-living abstainer forgoing cigarettes and drugs for the occasional glass of champagne. In subsequent years, this clarity of mind allowed him to continue honing his craft and reach the top of the rap charts in the US with releases like Everybody (2017), Bobby Tarantino II (2018), Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2019), and No Pressure (2020). Featuring cameos by DJ Premier, RZA, Royce da 5'9, The Game, AZ, Russ, Action Bronson, and Wiz Khalifa, his eighth studio album Vinyl Days appeared in 2022 and debuted at Number 12 on the Billboard 200. It was also his last release for Def Jam Recordings.
