Marie Davidson

A native of Montreal, techno music maker Marie Davidson (born in 1987) first gained success as half of Les Momies de Palerme, a synth heavy duo with Xarah Dion. She also was part of Land of Kush, as well as DKMD, a project on which she worked with David Kristian. Her solo debut, Perte D’Identité, a moody collection of lo-fi electro soundscapes backing lyrics that were often talk-sung, dropped in 2014. For her 2016 follow up, Adieux au Dancefloor, she shifted to more dance friendly beats while the lyrics took on a more openly autobiographical tone. During this time, she also released work with Pierre Guerineau under the moniker Essaie Pas. Her 2018 solo album Working Class Woman, found her writing specifically about her life as a working artist and contained the track “Work It”, which would gain greater exposure when a remixed version of it appeared in season 4 of the television series Workin’ Moms in 2020.
