Markus Krunegård

Swedish pop star Markus Krunegård, born April 6, 1971 in Norrköping, Sweden, rose to fame in his home country as the singer and guitarist of the band Laakso, but he struck out on his own with 2008’s Marusevangeliet and the single “Jag ä ren vampyr” gave him instant legitimacy as a solo artist, winning the 1009 P3 Guild award for Song of the Year. He doubled down on his initial success by issuing two new albums on the same day, October 14, 2009—Prinsen av Peking went to number 9 and Lev som en gris, dö som ed hund climbed to number 11. After a brief detour in the band Serenades, he had a triumphant return to solo work with his first number one album, 2012’s Mänsklig värme. That same year the venerable music magazine GAFFA-Priset named him Sweden’s best live artist, and he would capture that honor again in 2014. Two of his next three albums went top 5, with his 2018 LP becoming the second biggest success of his celebrated career by reaching number 2. He started the 2020s with another charting single, “Sett henne”.
