Michael Damian

While portraying the role of the rockstar Danny Romalotti on The Young and the Restless throughout most of the 1980s and 1990s, Michael Damian also pursued a career as a real-life rockstar, most notably topping the Billboard Hot 100 with his 1989 cover of the song "Rock On." He was born as "Michael Damian Weir" on April 26, 1962, in Bonsall, California. "She Did It," a cover of Eric Carmen's hit from 1977, was released in 1981 as Damian's lead single and reached number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its modest success helped the young entertainer land a leading role on The Young and the Restless. With his involvement, the show quickly became one of the most popular titles in soap opera history. Damian continued releasing music during his time on the show, making his full-length album debut with 1984's Love Is a Mystery and reaching number 61 on the Billboard 200 with his 1989 release Where Do We Go from Here. That same year, his cover of David Essex's "Rock On" appeared on the Dream A Little Dream soundtrack, topped the Billboard Hot 100, and went gold. The follow-up singles "Cover of Love" and "Was It Nothing at All" reached number 31 and 24, respectively, with all three songs also appearing on Where Do We Go From Here. Damian continued releasing albums throughout the 1990s and left The Young and the Restless in 1998, although he continued to make appearances on the show for more than two decades. He also continued to appear on multiple Billboard charts, hitting number 5 on Dance Singles Sales with his 2002 song "Shadows in the Night," reaching number 28 on the Adult Contemporary Chart with a 2009 re-recording of "Rock On," reappearing on the Adult Contemporary Chart at number 27 with his 2023 holiday single "Bring Back the Christmas Card."
