Mild High Club

The psychedelic pop act Mild High Club is largely the brainchild of Alexander Brettin. After studying jazz in Chicago, Brettin moved to the west coast and began working on material largely on his own, until he started to meet fellow musicians in his new hometown of Los Angeles who helped add to his solo productions. This material got the attention of Stones Throw Records who signed the loose-knit group and released their debut album, 2015’s Timeline. Brettin said that the follow-up album, 2016’s Skiptracer, was a more musically and lyrically ambitious work, and it earned positive reviews. Brettin teamed with the similarly psychedelic-minded Australian group King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard for the jazz inflected 2017 release Sketches of Brunswick East which was co-credited to both acts. Like Skiptracer, the album garnered positive reviews from critics and topped the Australian Jazz and Blues Albums chart. Brettin gave indications on social media in 2020 that a new album was forthcoming.
