Mohit Chauhan

Mohit Chauhan, an Indian pop star and award-winning playback singer for films, was born March 11, 1966 in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh. Although he studied Geology in college, he dreamed of an acting career. However it was in the music industry where he first gained celebrity as one of the singers in, and the main songwriter for, the group Silk Route. Hits like “Dooba Dooba” made the group superstars, but they disbanded after just two albums. In 2002 Bollywood directors took note of Mohit Chauhan’s talent and began hiring him to sing in their films. Often working with some of the biggest names in Bollywood, including celebrated composer A.R. Rahman, his voice graced numerous films every year. Starting in 2009 he regularly won film industry and critics awards for his vocal prowess on soundtracks. Albums like 2009’s Fitfoor allowed him an outlet for more personal work, and maintained his status as one of the elite pop stars of his generation. His numerous well-known singles include 2010’s “Masakali”, from the movie Delhi-6 and “Kun Faya Kun” from the 2011 film Rockstar. In 2021, “Rang Lageya”, a duet with Rochak Kohli scored him yest another top 40 hit.
