Mother Mother

Mother Mother is a Canadian indie rock band from Quadra Island, British Columbia. Formed in 2005 by siblings Ryan Guldemond (vocals/guitar) and Molly Guldemond (vocals/keyboards), the band made its debut that same year under the name "Mother" with a self-titled LP that garnered praise from critics and audiences alike. Soon enough, the musicians were opening for established acts such as the Wailin' Jennys, the Dears, and the Cat Empire, and found themselves playing gigs at some of Canada’s biggest festivals. All the buzz surrounding the band caught the attention of indie label Last Gang Records, who re-released their debut album under the title Touch Up in 2007. After some lineup changes, Mother Mother returned in 2008 with the album O My Heart and finally broke into the mainstream with 2011’s Eureka. The album reached Number 8 on the Canadian Albums Chart and spawned the single “The Stand,” which peaked at Number 76 on the Canada Singles Top 100. Their musical evolution continued with the albums The Sticks (2012), Very Good Bad Thing (2014), No Culture (2017), and Dance and Cry (2018), all of which enjoyed a great deal of attention in their native country. In 2020, Mother Mother’s music experienced a surge in popularity when some of the tracks of their 2008 album O My Heart went viral on social media. Inside, their highly-anticipated eighth album, hit the shelves in 2021 and went to Number 68 in Canada. The record's final single, "Hayloft II," went gold in Canada, and the band returned in early 2024 with another record, Grief Chapter.
