Phajja

The three members of R&B trio Phajja – Boston-based Karen Johnson and Chicago-born sisters Kena and Nakai Epps - first came together in 1987 as members of the quintet Not Your Average Girls. After four years of performing original material, they signed with Capital Records in 1991. Two years later, after two years and no releases, the group split up. Johnson and the Epps sisters continued as a trio under the Phajja name. The trio signed with Arista Records but no recordings were released. They signed a deal with Warner Brothers and released their first album Seize the Moment in 1997. The album featured the singles “So Long (Well Well Well)” and ‘What Are You Waiting For”. Their second album, Meeting in the Ladies Room, was released in 2000 and featured the single “Checkin’ for Me”.
