Pinchas Zukerman

Israeli violinist Pinchas Zukerman has been proclaimed as a major performer of classical and chamber music around the world for more than four decades. He is a teacher and a conductor. The 2017-18 season marked his ninth spell as principal guest conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London and his third as artist-in-residence with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. He leads the National Arts Centre orchestra regularly as well as orchestras in Baltimore, Nashville, San Diego and Vancouver. He performs regularly with violinist Itzhak Perlman, pianist Rohan De Silva and cellist Amanda Forsyth and he is a renowned teacher in the US and Canada with a long association with the Manhattan School of Music. Born in Tel Aviv, he won a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School in New York in 1962 and went on perform with Jacqueline du Pré and Daniel Barenboim. He has performed in all the top concert halls around the world and his more than 100 recordings have earned him 21 Grammy Award nominations with two wins. His first was for Best Classical Performance for 'Vivaldi: Four Seasons' (1973) and his most recent was for Best Chamber Music Performance for 'Beethoven: Complete String Trios Op. 3, 8 and 9' (1993). His recording of 'Bach: Violin Concertos' with Itzhak Perlman and the English Chamber Orchestra reached number 33 on the Billboard Catalog Albums Chart in 2009. He continues to tour with a 22-disc boxed set 'Pinchas Zukerman: Complete Recordings On Deutsche Grammophon and Philips' released in 2016.
