PJ Morton

Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, and producer PJ Morton – born Paul Morton Jr. in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 29, 1981 – is best known as the keyboardist of pop / soul band Maroon 5. Although he came to prominence with his work with the band, PJ Morton’s musical career began several years before with the release of his debut album, Emotions, in 2005. His second album, 2007’s Perfect Song (released as the PJ Morton Band) was followed by Walk Alone (2010). In 2010, he auditioned for and joined Maroon 5 as a touring keyboardist. The following year, he signed a deal with rapper / producer Mack Maine and his production company as well as becoming an artist on the Young Money Entertainment roster. In 2012, PJ Morton released the Following My First Mind EP and was also announced as a full-time official member of Maroon 5. While appearing on their albums Overexposed (2012), V (2014), Red Pill Blues (2017), and Jordi (2021), he continued to pursue his own career as an artist, songwriter, and producer. His 2013 album New Orleans, featured a guest appearance from Stevie Wonder on the single “Only One.” More critically acclaimed solo releases followed including Gumbo (2017), Christmas with PJ Morton (2018), and Paul (2019). Although he had been nominated several times before, PJ Morton won his first Grammy Award (Best Traditional R&B Performance) for his version of the Bee Gees classic “How Deep Is Your Love,” which was featured on his album Gumbo. His next Grammy Award (Best R&B Song) was for “Say So” featuring JoJo, lifted from the album Paul. PJ Morton released his first gospel album, Gospel According to PJ: From the Songbook of PJ Morton (2020), which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album. His 2022 release Watch the Sun was followed the next year by Watch the Sun Live: The Mansion Sessions, which included the Grammy Award-winning “Good Morning,” which won the honor of Best Traditional R&B Performance. During his career, he also released several other live albums, two EPs, and a mixtape (2016’s Bounce & Soul Volume 1).
