Plan B

Founded in 1999 by Puerto Rican cousins Orlando “Chencho” Vega and Edwin “Maldy” Vega, reggaeton duo Plan B recorded their early material under the name The Panic before renaming themselves after one of their first hits. Emerging at the turn of the millennium via a slew of crude collaborations with prominent record producer DJ Blass, the Guayama-based MC-producers experienced a breakthrough in 2002, with their debut album, El Mundo Del Plan B, featuring a star-studded list of collaborators including Daddy Yankee, Speedy, Ñejo & Dalmata. By 2006, the pair had bagged their first minor Billboard hit in the form of “Frikitona”, which appeared on producer Boy Wonder’s compilation El Documental and reached number 16 on the US Tropical Chart. In 2010, they inked a record deal with leading reggaeton label Pina Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music Latin, ahead of the release of their second LP, House of Pleasure. The album landed later the same year, peaking at number three on Billboard’s Latin albums chart and number 18 on the Heatseekers chart. It spawned two sleeper hits, "Si No Le Contesto" and "Es Un Secreto", both of which gradually racked up tens of millions of streams despite lukewarm initial chart performances. After a period wherein they focused largely on producing for other artists, the pair returned in 2014 with a third and final album, Love & Sex, which reached second place on the Billboard Latin albums chart. It included their first Billboard Tropical chart-topping single, “Fanática Sensual”. Making increasingly scarce appearances in the ensuing years, the duo enjoyed a number of late career highlights, winning a Billboard Latin Music Award in 2016 and topping Monitor Latino’s Hot Song General chart with the 2017 single “Te acuerdas de mí” before disbanding in 2018.
