Priscilla Chan

Priscilla Chan Wai-han, known professionally as Priscilla Chan, is a Hong Kong-based singer known for her vast contribution to Cantopop music. Born in Hong Kong on July 28, 1965, Chan started her music career in 1983 as a member of trio Girls' Magazine, embarking on a solo career in 1984 with her first two studio albums: Feelings of a Story (故事的感覺) and The Glass Window of Love (玻璃窗的愛) attaining platinum status and earning her the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the 1984 RTHK Top 10 Gold Songs Awards. In 1985, Chan made her Japanese debut with EP Thousand Year Lover (千年戀人; Japanese: 千年恋人), followed by self-titled album Priscilla (陳慧嫻) and smash hit "Flower Shop" (花店). In 1986, she released the double-platinum album Revolt (反叛), with disco track "Dancing Street" (跳舞街), becoming an instant hit and awarded the Most Popular Disco Song at the 1986 Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards. In 1988, Chan released another double platinum-certified album: Priscilla's Love (嫻情), with the hit "Silly Girl" (傻女) later selected as one of the 40 greatest Cantopop songs of all time by Time Out magazine. On July 25, 1989, Chan’s farewell album "Forever Your Friend" (永遠是你的朋友), coincided with the announcement that she would be putting her career on hold in order to further her tertiary education with lead single "Thousands of Songs" (千千闋歌) fast becoming a fan favourite, topping the charts for several weeks. Chan continued to release music sporadically throughout her studies, returning full time to the Hong Kong Cantopop scene in 1995 with chart-topping albums Welcome Back (陳慧嫻專輯) and I Am Not Lonely (我不寂寞). Disheartened with the progression of modern Cantopop during her absence, she took a step back from her career, returning in 2013 after a decade-long semi-hiatus, with two cover albums and a greatest hits compilation, before focusing on performing once again, embarking on two major concerts, Back to Priscilla: 30th Anniversary Concert 2014 Live and Priscilla-ism Live 2016. In 2022, Chan announced her participation in Chinese pop music reality show Singing with Legends, releasing triple greatest hits album Isshōkenmei (一生懸命) in the same year. In 2023, she returned to the charts with a re-release of beloved hit "Thousands of Songs" (千千闋歌) reaching the top 200 in China.
