Biography

A falsetto-equipped singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who refers to his sound as "soul-pop," Sam Dew made his first marks as co-composer of Wale's platinum hit "Lotus Flower Bomb" and Rihanna's "Numb." After the Chicago native contributed to Wale's The Gifted and The Album About Nothing and was featured on tracks by Skrillex ("Stranger") and Prefuse 73 ("Infrared"), he released his spoonerism-titled debut EP, Damn Sue. The six-track effort, issued on major-label RCA in April 2015, was recorded with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek. During the rest of 2015 and throughout 2016, Dew continued to assist other artists, including Lianne La Havas, Julio Bashmore, Santigold, and Clams Casino, and appeared on the soundtrack for Spike Lee's Chi-Raq. Moreover, Dew co-wrote "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," Taylor Swift and ZAYN's global smash for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack. Dew returned as a lead artist in 2017 with the singles "Runner" and "Remember," and radically reworked Bill Withers' "Use Me" for the Nextflix series The Get Down. ~ Andy Kellman
