Sango

Kai Asa Savon Wright, known as Sango, is an American DJ and music producer. Born on October 1, 1991, in Bremerton, Washington, U.S.A, he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan at the age of nine and later pursued a degree in graphic design at Western Michigan University before settling in Seattle. Choosing his stage name after being inspired by a character in the anime/manga series Inuyasha, he also cites his parents who are both musicians, as important influences on his style with debut album North, released in 2013, featuring his mother, a pianist, trumpeter, and drummer, on the track "Until Saturday." He also notably draws from Brazilian music, particularly baile funk, which he discovered through the Call of Duty video game series. Over the years, Sango has produced music for artists like Tinashe, Ravyn Lenae, Bryson Tiller, PinkPantheress, Christina Aguilera, Wale, MadeinTYO, and Smino, crediting producers like Kaytranada, Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Timbaland, Madlib, Flying Lotus, and Jake One as having a significant impact on his music. Building on the momentum from his initial releases, Sango continued to drop multiple tracks and EPs throughout his career as well as albums In the Comfort Of (2018), Moments Spent Loving You (2019), Shango (2020), Lake Effect (2021) and 97 (2023), gaining a dedicated following in the electronic music community, with his work consistently praised for its innovative and experimental approach. He returned in 2023 with a slew of collaborations and singles including “Pelle Pelle” (with femdot.), “Masego’s Interlude” (with Masego) and “Drifted” (feat. Jayla Darden).
