Shawn Mendes

Canadian pop phenomenon Shawn Mendes, born August 8, 1998 in Ontario, enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom thanks to a keen ear for a tune and skillful promotion through social media. At the age of 15 he began posting Vines of himself covering various songs. Within a few months he had millions of followers, and it wasn't long until he was discovered by Andrew Gertler who brought him to Island Records. His first single, 2014’s “Life of the Party” saw Mendes become the youngest ever artist to debut in the top 25 of Billboard's Hot 100. A busy promotional touring schedule in 2014 exposed his talents to a wider audience and helped his debut EP, The Shawn Mendes EP, peak at number 5. The following year a 17-year-old Mendes released his first album, Handwritten, and watched it soar to number 1. His second record, 2016’s Illuminate, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and he became the first artist under the age of 20 to have three number 1 singles on Billboard's Adult Pop Songs Chart. He followed up this success with a self-titled LP in 2018 that became his third straight number 1 album. It also contained the global smash “Señorita”, a collaboration with Camila Cabello that would be the biggest hit of his career to that point, going to number 1 in the United States, Canada, and throughout multiple European countries in 2019. His 2020 album Wonder came out in December of 2020 and included “Monster” a duet with his fellow Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber that went top 10 throughout the world and topped their native country’s pop chart.
