Shuanise

Enigmatic producer Shuanise Odunaiya, mononymously known as Shuanise, blends hip-hop, gospel, and nu-soul with a dash of spiritual jazz. Born in Dallas, Texas, to Nigerian parents, she began singing at a young age, simultaneously developing an obsession with percussive instruments. Her eclectic musical education, imparted by the likes of Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, and J Dilla, informed her production style, which is heavily characterized by mood and texture. Choosing London as her base of operations, Shuanise quickly inserted herself in the city's vibrant music scene, collaborating with producer fLako on BBE's Dirty Soul Electric compilation and turning heads with the track "Masudasante Naima." After being signed by the independent label UpMyAlley, she dropped her debut EP Voice of Reason in 2009. A year later, Shuanise joined the roster of Eglo Records, home to British DJ and producer Floating Points. "Kingdom / Catch / Commotion," her first release for the label, appeared in 2010.
