Shweta Mohan

Shweta Mohan – born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on November 19, 1985 – is an award-winning playback singer who has recorded over 700 songs in four south Indian languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu. She has also recorded several songs for Hindi cinema (Bollywood). The daughter of playback singer Sujatha Mohan, she started studying Carnatic music at the age of 9. In her early days, Shweta Mohan sang in the chorus on several songs by iconic composer and music director A. R. Rahman. She made her playback debut as a lead vocalist in the 2005 Mollywood film By the People. During her career, she has performed songs by other music directors including Devi Sri Prasad, Deepak Dev, Ilayaraja, Sharreth, Harris Jayaraj, and many others. Shweta Mohan music career includes close to 100 non-film recordings, the majority of her output can be heard in Mollywood (Malayalam cinema), Kollywood (Tamil cinema), Sandalwood (Kannada cinema), and Tollywood (Telugu cinema) films. She has received many honors including four Best Female Playback Singer awards from Filmfare Awards South, as well as honors from the Kerala State Film Awards, the Radio Mirchi Awards, the Vanitha Film Awards, the Film Critics, Awards, the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and many others. Shweta Mohan’s most popular songs include “Nee Paartha Vizhigal – The Touch of Love” with Anirudh Ravichander and Vijay Yesudas (from the 2011 film 3), “Innum Konjam Naeram” with A.R. Rahman and Vijay Prakash (from the 2013 film Maryan), “Vaa Vaathi” featuring Dhanush and Samyuktha Menon (from the 2022 film Vaathi), and “Mayakkum Pozhudhe” with Sathyaprakash (from the 2023 film Shaakuntalam).
