Slowthai

A British grime rapper celebrated for his politically-charged lyrics and genre-bending music, Tyron Frampton is better known by his stage name, Slowthai. Born in Northampton, England, on December 18, 1994, he struggled with a speech impediment during childhood, which led to him being nicknamed "Slow Ty." He later developed an acclaimed form of hip hop that merged the raw energy of punk music with the rhythmic delivery of rap. His first single, "Jiggle," was released in 2016, followed by "Murder" in 2017. His debut EP, slowitdownn, also appeared in 2017. Slowthai then began to work on material for his first album, Nothing Great About Britain, whose songs tackled modern-day topics like social injustice and political ineptitude. Released in May 2019, the album reached Number 9 on the British Albums Chart and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. A second album, Tyron, was released to great fanfare in February 2021, debuting at the top of the charts in Scotland and the UK. The album also featured collaborations with a number of international rappers, pop singers, and electronic artists, including ASAP Rocky, Skepta, Dominic Fike, and James Blake.
