Snail Mail

Snail Mail is the alias of American singer/songwriter Lindsey Jordan, whose intricate mix of indie rock, synth-pop, and grunge influences has resulted in critical acclaim and award nominations. Jordan was born in Ellicott City, Maryland, on June 16, 1999, and was still a teenager when she self-released her debut EP, Sticki, in 2015. A second EP, Habit, followed in 2016 and earned the attention of Matador Records, who signed Snail Mail and released her proper debut album, Lush, in 2018. A Number 2 hit on the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart, Lush was a critically-adored album that appeared on more than a dozen outlets' "best of" lists at the year's end. The album also increased Snail Mail's presence within the indie music community, earning nominations for "Breakthrough Artist/Release" and "Best Rock Album" at the 2019 Libera Awards. Matador reissued the Habit EP that same year, with the release serving as a stopgap recording until Snail Mail's second full-length effort, Valentine, appeared in 2021. Largely written during the Covid-19 pandemic and heavily influenced by Jordan's 45-day stay in a rehabilitation clinic, Valentine was as critically well-received as its predecessor. The album fared well on a commercial level, too, peaking at Number 61 on the Billboard 200, Number 35 on the UK Albums chart, Number 35 on Australia's ARIA Albums Chart, and Number 7 in Scotland.
