SOJA

The reggae outfit SOJA are an American group who come from Arlington, Virginia in the USA. Arlington is a long way from Trenchtown or Montego Bay but listeners would never guess when they hear the band's authentic reggae and dub sounds. The band's name is an acronym for Soldiers of Jah's Army and the idea to form a reggae band was the brainchild of frontman Jacob Hemphill and bass player Bob Jefferson. The band were formed in 1997 and began to steadily build up an enthusiastic fan base for their music by promotional tours and releasing a series of carefully crafted authentic reggae albums. By the time the band released their third album 'Born in Babylon' they had become an established name amongst reggae music followers across the USA and the album made it to number eleven on Billboard's Heatseeker Chart. 'Strength to Survive' was released three years later in 2012 and went to number two on the Independent Chart as well as topping Billboard's Reggae Chart. With eight studio albums to their credit the band have become an established feature on the reggae music scene, testament to their slow and steady approach towards writing and recording which always keeps fans eager for SOJA's next release or news of the next tour.
