Tegan and Sara

Identical twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin started playing and writing together when they were 15, and have gone on to tour with The Killers, Neil Young and The Pretenders and become one of Canada's most acclaimed musical exports. Their first break came when they won a Calgary battle of the bands competition in 1998 and used their prize of studio time to record and self-release debut Under Feet Like Ours (1999). They were signed to Young's Vapor label on the back of it and went on to craft a lo-fi indie pop sound, full of sugar sweet harmonies and punky riffs on early albums If It Was You (2002) and So Jealous (2004). Their track Walking With The Ghost was covered by the White Stripes, before breakthrough album The Con (2007) featured contributions from Death Cab For Cutie's Jason McGerr and Weezer's Matt Sharp and made it to Number 4 in the Canadian charts. Changing direction completely on seventh album Heartthrob (2013), they discovered 1980s electro, fizzing synths and grandiose, chamber pop as they made the Polaris Music Prize Shortlist, reached Number 3 in the US and appeared on Letterman to play their hit single Closer.
