Vijay Antony

Vijay Antony – born in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, India on July 24, 1975 – is a playback singer, composer, actor, lyricist, and music director best known for his work in the Tamil cinema industry (aka Kollywood). After working on several TV projects, he began his career in the film industry as playback singer and composer in 2005’s Sukran. A year later, he composed music for the films Dishyum and Iruvar Mattum and made his acting debut in Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai. After composing music for several other films, he came to prominence in 2008 for his music featured in the hit film Kadhalil Vizhunthen. The film’s best-known song is “Naaka Mukka,” which won the 2009 Cannes Golden Lion award. The song was later used in 2011 at the Cricket World Cup championship. Vijay Antony’s work on film soundtracks continued to earn recognition, earning him many nominations. The 2009 film Vettaikaaran won several awards including the Vijay Award for Favorite Song. In the midst of his career as a composer and music director, he also became more interested in acting and became a lead actor in 2012’s Naan. He subsequently landed lead roles in more than a dozen films in as many years. In 2017, he added film editor to his resume, editing several of the films that he acted in or served as music director including Annadura (2017), Thimiru Pudichavan (2018, and Kodiyil Oruvan (2021).
