Wax Tailor

Born on 19 July 1975 in Vernon, Normandy, Jean-Christophe Le Saoût is better known by the stage name Wax Tailor; a French record, producer, and DJ who launched himself onto the French electronic scene in 2004 with his Lost the Way EP. Bringing a hip-hop touch to his electronic productions, he released his debut album Tales of the Forgotten Melodies on the Lab’oratoire/Under Cover labels the following year, which was a success at home in France as well as reaching the US. In 2007, he dropped a follow-up album Hope & Sorrow, which was nominated for Best Electronic Album by the Victoires de la Musique in France and featured vocalists Charlotte Savary and Ursula Rucker. The album also cracked the French top 40, making it to number 31. He fared even better on the charts with his third LP In the Mood for Life (2009)—which was also nominated for Best Electronic Music Album at the Victoires de la Musique in France—and scored his third consecutive nomination with fourth studio album Dusty Rainbow in the Dark (2012), which debuted at number eight in France. He won the Sacem Electronic Music Prize in 2013. Four years later saw the release of By Any Beats Necessary, which featured guest appearances from the likes of Tricky and Ghostface Killah and went to number 12 in France. The record was turned into a remix album in 2017, By Any Remixes Necessary, and accompanied by a world tour. Wax Tailor returned in 2021 after four years to release The Shadow of Their Suns, which featured the late Mark Lanegan, Del the Funky Homosapien (Gorillaz), D Smoke, Gil Scott Heron, and others. The album hit number 14 in France. In 2023, he issued new LP Fishing for Accidents, with guest spots from Mr. Lif & Napoleon Da Legend, Mick Jenkins and more.
