Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris

American country music legends Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris combined their remarkable singing talents for two hit albums, 'Trio' in 1987 and 'Trio II' in 1999. Already acclaimed for many award-winning hit solo albums, the threesome achieved some of their greatest success with the two releases. Parton's hit albums started with 'Hello, I'm Dolly' in 1967, Ronstadt started out with the Stone Poneys in the 1960s with debut album 'Hand Sown... Home Grown' in 1969, while Harris's hits began with 'Pieces of the Sky' in 1975. The three singers had performed together previously on the 1975 single 'Light of the Stable', with Neil Young singing harmony; the track later appeared on the Harris album of the same title. Her 1978 album 'Evangeline' featured the title track with Parton and Ronstadt. They sang 'My Blue Tears' on Rondstadt's 1982 release 'Get Closer' and 'Palms of Victory', which was recorded in 1978 and appeared on a Harris compilation album 'Songbird: Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems' in 2007. Their first 'Trio' album, produced by George Massenburg, won the Grammy Award for Best Country Performance By a Duo Or Group. Ry Cooder, Kenny Edwards, Albert Lee, Mark O'Connor, Herb Pedersen and Leland Sklar are among the musicians who play on the album. 'Trio' went to number one on Billboard's Top Country Albums Chart and produced hit singles 'To Know Him Is to Love Him' which topped the Hot Country Songs Chart, 'Telling Me Lies' which reached number three, 'Those Memories of You' which hit number five and 'Wildflowers' which went to number six. 12 years later they re-teamed for 'Trio II', which reached number four on the Top Country Albums Chart. A three-disc box set, 'The Complete Trio Collection', with remastered and unreleased tracks, came out in 2016 on the Rhino label.
