Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman is a jazz fusion power trio formed in 1998. The band - J.T. Lewis (drums), Melvin Gibbs (bass), and Brandon Ross (guitar/banjo/vocals) – is named after the legendary African-American abolitionist and activist who escaped slavery and helped 300+ others escape from the same situation in the mid 1800s. The band mixes soul, jazz, blues and rock into a formidable fusion that is influenced by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Funkadelic, and Ornette Coleman. The band members themselves had previously worked with a diverse array of artists including Lou Reed, Herbie Hancock, Sting, the Rollins Band, and others. Harriet Tubman released their first album, I Am a Man, in 1998. Other albums in their catalog include Prototype (2000), Ascention (2011), Araminta (2017), and The Terror End of Beauty (2018).
