Jack Savoretti

Singer-songwriter Giovanni “Jack” Savoretti was born October 1, 1983 in London. His mother, a former model who hung with Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, encouraged him to pick up a guitar at the age of 16. Until this age, his main focus had been writing poetry. Surprised by the attention his words received when set to music, he continued to combine the two until he released his first single, “Without” in 2006. Receiving some attention from BBC Radio 2 helped the song reach number 90 in the UK Singles Chart. His second single, “Dreamers”, only reached number 123, but by this point he had been invited to support Corinne Bailey Rae on her European tour. His debut album, 2007’s Between the Minds was made Album of the Week on Radio 2 and hit number 2 on the UK Indie Album Chart. His first solo tour followed, performing at outlets of the coffee chain Caffé Nero. This led to the re-release of his debut album with a bonus disc of acoustic versions. His second album, Harder Than Easy, included support from members of Tom Waits' band and Counting Crows, but was released in the US as a download only in 2009, leading to friction between him and his management and label. Ending his relationship with both and briefly quitting the music business, he returned with 2012’s Before the Storm. The album received positive reviews from critics and encouraged him to bring more of himself into his music by drawing on his father's love for '60s and '70s Italian pop music for his next album, 2014’s Written in Scars. Released in 2014. The album was the result of a fruitful collaboration with songwriters Sam Dixon and Matt Benbrook, a partnership that would continue for, 2016’s Sleep No More. A sold-out headline tour of the UK and Ireland followed in support of the album's release. 2019’s Singing to Strangers with a move towards bigger production and was influenced by European and American film soundtracks from the '50s and '60s. Recorded at the legendary Italian soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone's studio in Rome, the album featured prominent orchestral backing and grittier vocals reminiscent of Joe Cocker. The public responded and Jack Savoretti scored his first number 1 album. That chart-topping feat was equaled by the follow-up, 2021’s Europiana, which featured the Nile Rodgers collaboration “Who’s Hurting Who”.
