Kohmi Hirose

Japanese pop singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer Kohmi Hirose was born in Chikushino, Fukuoka, Japan on April 12, 1966. She released her first album, Bingo!, in 1992 but she scored her first big hit single with the December 1993 release of “Romance no Kamisama”. The single sold over a million copies and changed the course of her career. Thanks to a sponsorship with Alpen Co., Ltd., a Japanese sporting goods company, she began to write songs for their winter advertising campaigns. She also started to release her new music during the winter months, which helped earn her the nickname ‘Winter Queen’, a title bestowed upon her by the Japanese public. Subsequent releases included the December 1995 single “Gelaende ga Tokeru Hodo Koishitai”, “Dear… Again” (1996), and the multi-million selling 1998 compilation The Best Love Winters. Her popularity led to her hosting a weekly show entitled Friday Kohmi. She continued to release a series of singles and best-selling albums including the English-language Christmas album Love X’mas in 2011. Celebrating her 20th anniversary as a recording artist, Hirose released Singles Collection before embarking on a celebratory tour. She continued to release albums, including 2019’s Sing. Her tour plans in 2020 were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
