Lisette Oropesa

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 29, 1983, Lisette Oropesa is a coloratura soprano of Cuban descent. She began her musical journey by studying the flute with her mother Rebecca Oropesa, a music teacher and opera singer. Discovered during an audition at the University of Louisiana conservatory, she won the final auditions in 2005 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she continued her training. She had made her debut in Idomeneo under the direction of James Levine (2006) and earned attention when, as a substitute, she appeared in five performances of The Marriage of Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera in 2007. Since that debut, she has performed regularly at the Met in productions such as Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Puccini’s La Rondine, and as the daughter of the Rhine Woglinde in Wagner's Tetralogy. Her reprise of the role led to a Grammy Award-winning recording in 2013. Lisette Oropesa took on the lead role in La Traviata (2020), directed by Carlo Rizzi, which she later recorded in the studio. Performing around the world, her diverse repertoire included the works of Gluck, Bizet, Verdi, Handel, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, Wagner, Donizetti, and Massenet. Lisette Oropesa’s acclaimed discography includes Within / Without (2017), Aux filles du desert (2018), Mozart: Ombra Compagna (2021), Rossini & Donizetti: French Bel Canto Arias (2022), and Handel: Theodora (2022).
