Nicole Renee

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nicole Renée, born March 5, 1975, first gained attention as one of the hosts on the BET program Teen Summit. The show featured teen presenters interviewing major recording artists of the day, and discussing topics of interest to teens. Though the Julliard attendee had planned on a career in classical music, she signed with Atlantic Records as an R&B artist. Her debut album, 1998’s Nicole Renee, was unique because she had a hand in writing and producing almost every track. The album’s lead single, “Strawberry”, just missed the top 40 on the R&B chart and stalled at 83 on the pop chart. The album failed to chart. Renée worked as a back-up singer on recordings for other artists including Tyrese, Chanty Savage, and Anastascia. A prolific songwriter, she has had her songs recorded by artists such as CoCo Lee, Forte, and Planet Soul.
