Patrick Wolf

One of the UK's most eccentric and contradictory artists, Patrick Wolf morphs incoherently from lost romantic poet and violin-playing libertine, into playful, glitter-stained electronica. Throw in swooning surrealism, chamber pop melancholy and old folk stories and you're just about scratching the surface of Wolf's music. Starting out busking and playing in experimental noise bands, Wolf was spotted by producer Capitol K, who released his debut album Lycanthropy (2003) through his label Tomlab. He studied at Trinity College of Music and played with Arcade Fire and CocoRosie before recruiting Marianne Faithfull and Edward Larrikin to feature on his more pop friendly third album The Magic Position (2007). After being dropped by Universal Records he funded the acclaimed The Bachelor (2009) by selling £10 shares to fans through the website bandstocks.com and returned to a major label for the "festival of love" themed Lupercalia (2011). An androgynous, romantic throwback to the likes of David Bowie and Marc Bolan, Wolf has also modelled for fashion label Burberry.
