Peps Persson

Born December 20, 1946 in Klippan, Sweden, Peps Persson is a blues and reggae singer, songwriter and guitarist who has also explored prog rock elements. His early musical career was devoted to the blues, often recording Swedish versions of blues and reggae songs by Muddy Waters, Elmore James, and Bob Marley. Between 1968 and 1975, he recorded a series of blues albums under his own name and with his bands Blues Quality, Peps Bluesband, and Peps Bloodband. In 1974, he scored a hit with “False Mathematics” from his album Blood Ties. Beginning with his 1975 album High Standard, he switched his musical focus to reggae. Persson’s next album, Droppen urkholkar stenen (1976) continued his move to reggae and was followed by the album The Lonely Man, a collaboration with Ronny Åström. He continued to release a series of solo albums through the ‘80s and ‘90s – including Oh Boy (1992) - alongside albums released with Bloodband, and several more collaborations. His 2006 compilation album Oh Boy: The Best of Peps Persson reminded the public of his vast contributions to Swedish blues and reggae music.
