Sandra Mihanovich

Argentine singer-songwriter and actress Sandra Mihanovich was born on April 24, 1957, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The daughter of polo player and architect Iván Mihanovich and anchorwoman Mónica Cahen D'Anvers, her first contact with music was through his paternal grandfather, who instilled a passion for jazz in her from a very young age. After graduating high school, she studied music at the Universidad Católica Argentina while also pursuing a theater degree at the Conservatorio de Artes Dramáticas. In 1976, she began performing live on the city's pub circuit, where she befriended composers like Alejandro Lerner, Marilina Ross, and future romantic partner Celeste Carballo. Following a series of supporting roles in Alejandro Doria's La Isla (1979) and Los Miedos (1980), Sandra Mihanovich made her recording debut in 1982 with Puerto Pollensa, whose title track, a Marilina Ross original, enjoyed great popularity among local audiences. Later that year, she became the first artist to play a sold-out show at the Obras Sanitarias stadium. In 1985, she starred in the Argentine film La Búsqueda, also participating in the original soundtrack with the songs "Soy Lo Que Soy" and "Para Volver a Creer." Only a year later, she won the Antorcha de Plata at the Viña del Mar Festival and scored another hit with the ballad "Todo Me Recuerda a Ti," a Sheena Easton cover included in her 1986 LP En el Paraíso. Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Sandra Mihanovich formed the duo Sandra y Celeste with Celeste Carballo, issuing the albums Somos Mucho Más Que Dos (1988) and Mujer Contra Mujer (1990), the latter of which achieved iconic status within the Argentine homosexual community. Subsequently, her musical evolution continued with titles like Todo Brilla (1992), Cambio de Planes (1994), Todo Tiene un Lugar (2000), Sin Tu Amor (2003), and Honrar la Vida (2009), a tribute to legendary tango singer Eladia Blázquez. Featuring guest spots by Soledad and Pedro Aznar, the folklore album Bendiciones appeared in 2022.
