Sheila Majid is one of Southeast Asia's most celebrated jazz singers and pop icons. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on January 3, 1965, she began playing piano at age 4 and released her gold-selling debut album, Dimensi Baru, in 1985. Emosi followed in 1986 and expanded Majid's popularity to Indonesia, where she became the country's first non-native musician to win the BASF award for Best Female R&B Artist. 1988's Warna and 1990's Legenda both earned multi-platinum certifications, while 1999's Ku Mohon was crowned Best Pop Album by Anugerah Industri Muzik, Malaysia's equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Majid's success extended well into the 21st century, with Cinta Kita and its lead single, "Kerinduan," both topping the Indonesian charts in 2004.
