Sherbet

Australia’s effervescent soft-rockers Sherbert formed in 1969 and were one of the country’s most popular and prolific groups of the 1970s. The band notched up 20 consecutive hit records and 10 platinum and 14 gold discs across 10 studio albums and 38 singles, first stepping out with debut album Time Change... A Natural Progression in 1972. Peaking at Number 66 on Australia’s former weekly record chart Kent Music Report, the album contained five hit singles, including “Can You Feel It, Baby?”, “Free the People” and the LP’s accompanying single, “You've Got the Gun". The band’s second album, 1973’s On with the Show, peaked at Number 6 in Australia, and its third album Slipstream peaked at Number 3; they became one of Australia’s most beloved teen-friendly popular groups. Sherbet released another four albums during the 1970s and spawned an impressive slew of hits at home, along with enjoying international success for “Howzat”, which became a Top 10 in Europe as well as making it into the Top in South Africa, Southeast Asia and Israel. Sherbert weathered countless lineup changes and breakups over the years, and after splitting up temporarily in 1979, returned the following year as The Sherbs to release The Skill, marking the group's first outing for the US charts. Sherbert’s final album Defying Gravity came in 1981, with Daft Punk sampling "We Ride Tonight" on "Contact" from the duo's chart-topping 2013 album Random Access Memories. In 1984, they reverted to Sherbet and released final single, "Tonight Will Last Forever". In 1990, Sherbet was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
