The Chainsmokers

US DJ and production duo the Chainsmokers had a surprise hit with the novelty song "#Selfie" released in 2014. "#Selfie" was originally offered as a download giveaway but its potential was spotted by Dim Mak Records who repackaged it and streamed it through Republic Records. "#Selfie" sold over 60,000 copies, debuting at number 55 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and continued to sell well during the ensuing weeks suggesting tfhe Chainsmokers had pitched the song, its timing and its title perfectly for the intended audience. Subsequent recordings by the duo displayed a more thoughtful, considered side to the Chainsmokers' songwriting abilities and the band have since capitalised on their success. The single "Paris," released in early 2017, received over 270 million streams and the official video—which featured fashion model Marsha Hunt—generated over a million hits on YouTube. The duo's 2017 single "Something Just Like This," a collaborative effort with Coldplay, received over nine million plays in a single day and their popularity ballooned in the years that followed the release of their 2017 chart-topping debut album Memories...Do Not Open. Their second album Sick Boy (2018) comprised a slew of previously released singles and collaborative cuts with French DJ Aazar, US DJ NGHTMRE, and Kelsea Ballerini on the hit track "This Feeling." Having now metamorphosed into behemoths of chart-friendly EDM, they kept up the momentum in 2019 with another pair of hits from their third album World War Joy—"Who Do You Love" featuring 5 Seconds of Summer and "Call You Mine" featuring Bebe Rexha—which featured an all-star, genre-spanning cast of contributors: Blink-182, Kygo, Ty Dolla $ign, and more. However, they chose to leave guests out of the equation for their fourth LP So Far So Good (2022), opting instead to round up a slew of co-producers and co-writers, from Coldplay's Chris Martin to Akon. 2023 saw the release of the Chainsmokers' fifth album Summertime Friends, which yielded a single in the title track and several other singles. In 2024, the Chainsmokers released new singles in "Fault in the Stars" with Powfu and "Addicted" with Zerb featuring Ink.
