The Whitefield Brothers

Formed in Munich, Germany in 1998 by brothers Jan and Max Weissenfeldt, The Whitefield Brothers is an Afrobeat-influenced funk band that recreates the sounds of sweaty 1970s funk. The origins of the band began in 1991 when guitarist Jan Weissenfeldt formed the Poets of Rhythm. Eventually joined by his brother Max on drums and vibraphone, the group released the album Practice What You Preach in 1993. After a string of singles, the brothers formed the Whitefield Brothers with Jan becoming JJ Whitefield and his brother changing his name to Max Whitefield. They released their debut album, In the Raw, in 2001 to great acclaim. The brothers worked on different projects over the next six years before coming together to record a second album, Earthology, which was released in 2009. The group was put on hold as the brothers worked on other projects, but the band has not yet released a third album.
